The Challenge

As the first company to sell textured hair extensions for black women, KinkyCurlyYaki has made waves in the hair industry since their debut in 2012. With a goal to inspire women to love who they are – big fluffy hair and all – they were ready to take it up a notch with a new website and a fresh design on Shopify Plus, a platform capable of handling their big vision for growth.

Our Approach

We honed in on what makes their brand so special: they give women the power to look like themselves. We fused this theme into every element on their site. Everything from their product pages to photography was carefully crafted to create an experience that reflects the empowering lifestyle their products create.

What We Worked On

  • UX Design
  • Website Design
  • Custom Development
  • Migration to Shopify Plus

Highlights

Our goal was to remind shoppers they aren’t just buying new hair, but a product designed to make them feel confident, powerful and happy. Every key page embodies this value, and a strong focus on rich imagery provides insight into what this brand celebrates.

To help visitors find what they need, KinkyCurlyYaki's homepage highlights different hair collections straight away, and calls out the core values that made customers fall in love with them in the first place. They also add in social reviews to build trust and to give shoppers an idea on what they can expect with a purchase.

Thanks to rich photography, engaging videos and detailed descriptions, KinkyCurlyYaki's product pages help answer key questions shoppers may have. The FAQ section provides even more insight, and social proof at the bottom of the page helps convince visitors who need a little extra push to make a decision.

Each element on this site helps elevate this brand, celebrating women, and empowering them to be the bold and powerful women they are.
